On Thursday (August 29, 2024), airBaltic officially inaugurated their Technical Academy in a ceremony attended by 57 new students, airBaltic representatives and other dignitaries.  The new students are enrolled in three specialized programs, and will begin their journey to become professional aviation maintenance technicians.  airBaltic’s Technical Academy opening ceremony took place in the carrier’s hangar located at Riga Airport (RIX).

In Thursday’s announcement, airBaltic’s President and CEO, Martin Gauss, said,

“Today marks a significant milestone for airBaltic and the entire Baltic region as we launch our new Technical Academy.  This initiative will provide students with high-level technical education, and professional skills, preparing them for a successful career within the aviation industry.  Skilled and well-trained professionals are key to the success of any airline that is why we are continuously investing in the development of our team, ensuring that airBaltic maintains the highest standards with the best professionals and innovative technological solutions in technical maintenance.

“During study years, I wish students to make the most of every learning opportunity.  Your time at the Technical Academy will equip you with not only practical knowledge but also such essential skills and values like teamwork.  Embrace challenges with curiosity, as they will shape your future success in the aviation industry.  I wish you all the best on this exciting journey.”

The airBaltic Technical Academy has facilities in Riga and Liepaja, and provides hands-on training focused on the modern, state-of-the-art Airbus A220-300. The new academy supports the airline’s goal of hiring and training 400 new aviation maintenance professionals by 2030.  With three specialized programs, the Technical Academy offers free education, the chance to combine work and studies, and guaranteed employment.  Starting day one, participants receive paid training and employment, working towards EASA Part-66 certification as B1 and B2 technicians.  The program is tailored for individuals with strong technical skills, including a full salary, comprehensive insurance, and unique industry benefits.

The new airBaltic Technical Academy complements the carrier’s existing airBaltic Training suite of study programs, which includes the Pilot Academy, maintenance training, flight crew training, cabin crew training, ground personnel training, instructor training and more.  For more information about the new airBaltic Technical Academy program, please click here.
