Yesterday, Air Transat announced Wednesday’s completion of their inaugural service from Vancouver to San José Costa Rica with continuing service to Liberia. The twice weekly service will be available on Wednesdays and Saturdays through April 18, 2020. After stopping in San José, Wednesday’s inaugural flight continued to Daniel-Oduber-Quirós Airport in Liberia and was greeted by a traditional water cannon salute and a ribbon-cutting ceremony. In Thursday’s announcement, Air Transat’s President and General Manager, Jean-François Lemay said,

“We are proud to be adding these new destinations to our Winter 2019-2020 program and in the process enhancing service out of Vancouver. These new routes make it easier than ever for travelers to explore Costa Rica, an increasingly popular tourist destination that has so much to offer in the way of rich culture and majestic scenery.”

When the aircraft touched down in San José Costa Rica, the Director of AERIS (the Juan Santamaría Airport Authority said,

“With this new Air Transat connection, Vancouverites can now fly direct to Costa Rica’s main airport. This new route will encourage travel in both directions, knowing Canadians’ taste for our country, while creating an alternative for Costa Ricans who want to visit North America.”

Also commenting on the inaugural service in Liberia, Daniel-Oduber-Quirós Airport’s CEO, César Jaramillo said,

“We are excited to see the fruits of our ongoing efforts in conjunction with government authorities to attract new flights and airlines. The new route operated by Air Transat provides direct service to and from Vancouver but also connections to the rest of Canada. This is a very important market for achieving our goal of maintaining growth in tourist arrivals from the northern part of the continent.”

Air Transat is operating the Vancouver-Costa Rica routes with a brand new Airbus A321neo LR (Long Range). The aircraft offers the best fuel efficiency and lowest emissions in its class along with a completely redesigned cabin. Customers will enjoy more personal space, a state-of-the-art IFE system and USB ports to charge personal devices. For an elevated experience, guests can choose Air Transat’s “Club Class” which offers an exclusive cabin, larger ergonomic seats with leg rests, and a complimentary gourmet menu by Chef Daniel Vézina.
