Air Serbia Prepares for Delivery of Airbus A330 With Livery Honoring Nikola Tesla

Air Serbia is preparing to welcome an Airbus A330 to their fleet that has a unique livery design to honor the famous Serbian Scientist and inventor Nikola Tesla. The painting process took place in Shannon, Ireland using 22 different colors and around 250 liters of paint.

On Thursday (April 22, 2021) Air Serbia, the national airline of Serbia, announced the pending delivery of the newest addition to their fleet, an Airbus A330 with a bespoke livery honoring Serbia’s famous scientist and inventor, Nikola Tesla. The painting process took place in Shannon, Ireland and included the use of 22 colors and approximately 250 liters of paint, encompassing eight days of nonstop work over three shifts by around 10 team members per shift. The design symbolizes movement and speed, with the main detail a stylized image of Nikola Tesla on the tailfin. The distinctive blue incorporated in the design is part of the Serbian national Airline’s corporate identity and was chosen as the main color of Tesla’s image, complemented by 19 different shades.

In Thursday’s announcement, Air Serbia’s CEO, Duncan Naysmith, said,

“The arrival of the Airbus A330 jet to its new home in Belgrade is a very important event for Air Serbia. It is a great honour for us to have one of our planes carry the name and image of Nikola Tesla. The fact that this great genius, who is from our region, but spent most of his life in New York, adds to the importance and the symbolism of his image on the airplane which will be connecting Belgrade and the Big Apple. This is one of our flagship routes and we are certain that the arrival of the new plane will enhance the customer experience and success of the route, which connects the entire region with the United States of America.”

Air Serbia’s newly liveried Airbus A330 was manufactured in 2008 and is a year younger than the aircraft it replaces in the airline’s fleet. The aircraft was previously operated by Aeroflot and will now be registered in the Serbian aircraft registry under the tail number YU-ARB. Unlike the airline’s first Airbus A330 (YU-ARA), the replacement aircraft features Rolls-Royce engines and is configured with 21 Business Class and 236 Economy Class seats.

To celebrate the delivery of the Nikola Tesla inspired aircraft, Air Serbia has curated a new onboard menu based on three words that can be used to describe his work and patents…Energy, Frequency and Vibration. The menu for Business Class and Economy Class passengers has been designed in collaboration with Chef Zoran Mišković, inspired by Tesla’s childhood and his student days in New York. Guests of all tastes will delight in the carefully curated menu, which has been marked with the letter ‘T’ for “Tesla’s Way.”
