On Friday (May 7, 2021), Air Dolomiti, the Italian airline of the Lufthansa Group, announced the launch of new service between Frankfurt and Sweden starting September 19, 2021. The carrier will offer five weekly flights to Ronneby Airport with continuing service to Kalmar. The route will be operated with a 120-seat Embraer E195 and flights will be offered on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays. Ronneby is in southern Sweden and is home to numerous companies with international trade links. The city is part of the beautiful Blekinge Region and close to many popular destinations to explore. Ronneby Airport is part of the Swedavia Group, which operates ten Swedish Airports. Kalmar is one of the oldest cities in Sweden and offers rich history, traditions and architecture.

In Friday’s announcement, Air Dolomiti’s President and CEO, Joerg Eberhart, said,

“I am very happy about this new connection which will allow easy access to Sweden from several Italian cities. An area that has always seemed far away now becomes easy to reach and we can in this way give continuity to our project to expand our range of flights and offer new destinations to our passengers.”

Also commenting on the new service, Swedavia Ronneby Airport’s Director, Arri Kallonen, said,

“We are immensely happy to have a direct connection between our region and Frankfurt Germany, as well as onwards in the worldwide LH network; the route meets the demands of both business and leisure travellers in our region. We can now offer this service at a high level with five weekly departures. We look forward to getting operations started in September and hopefully the situation then has been eased, and the world and our passengers are ready to travel again.”

Kalmar Öland Airport’s CEO, Ronny Lindberg, commented,

“We are so happy and at the same time very humble for this opportunity we’ve been given by Air Dolomiti and Lufthansa. An International southward hub connection will make travelling to and from our region so much easier, for both business and leisure purposes.”

Further commenting on the new connectivity, Blekinge Regional Development Board’s Chairman, Johan Sandberg, added,

“Blekinge county has the largest export per capita of all counties in Sweden. An easier way to and from continental Europe and to an international hub has been a dream of many businesses in the region for a long time and is an opportunity to further economic growth both for industry and tourism.”

The flights will depart Frankfurt at 12:00 and arrive in Ronneby at 13:35, and then in Kalmar at 14:50. The return flight departs Ronneby at 14:20 and then from Kalmar at 15:35, arriving Frankfurt at 17:25. The new connection also joins the Miles & More loyalty program, allowing flyers to earn miles and obtain other benefits.

Air Dolomiti was founded in 1991 with the goal of connecting the main Italian airports to Germany, especially Munich and Frankfurt. In 2019, the airline carried over 2.5 million passengers, operating multi-day frequencies to Italian and European destinations. Air Dolomiti operates a fleet of 15 Embraer E195s and prides itself on being an efficient and reliable airline that puts customers first. The airline’s Fare plan provides five different options including three economy and two business fares, which allows guests to select the set of services that best suits their needs.
