Air Canada Launches Infinite Canada Pass; Offers Complimentary International COVID-19 Insurance

Air Canada announced on Wednesday the introduction of the ‘Infinite Canada Flight Pass’ which allows unlimited travel within Canada for a flat monthly fee. On Thursday, the carrier launched complimentary COVID-19 coverage for eligible international round-trip flights.

On Wednesday (September 16, 2020), Air Canada announced the introduction of the ‘Infinite Canada Flight Pass’ which allows unlimited domestic Canadian travel without blackout or booking restrictions for a flat monthly fee. The Pass allows customers to make changes or cancellations without penalties and unlimited travel for up to three months, depending on duration purchased. The Air Canada Infinite Flight Pass is available for purchase from September 16th through September 23, 2020. The cost of the Pass starts at $2,000/month (excluding taxes) and they are available for one, two, or three months. Customers can also choose from three classes of service including Standard, Flex and Latitude. Benefits include unlimited flights within Canada for one fixed price, accumulation of Altitude Qualifying Miles, booking of travel up to one hour prior to departure (without blackout dates or booking restrictions) and no change or cancellation fees. In Wednesday’s announcement, Air Canada’s Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer, Lucie Guillemette said,


"Air Canada recognizes that as air travel begins to return to normal customers want flexibility and certainty. Our new Infinite Canada Flight Pass provides both by enabling customers to easily book and change their travel plans without any blackout restrictions or change or cancellation fees, while locking in the price of their flights for up to three months with one flat fee. The pass also gives customers the option to choose which class of fare they desire -- Standard, Flex and Latitude -- and allows them to earn Altitude Qualifying Miles."


In a separate announcement today (September 17, 2020), Air Canada launched complimentary COVID-19 insurance coverage for eligible international travelers. The emergency medical and quarantine coverage is available for new bookings made in Canada from September 17th through October 31, 2020 for international round-trip flights completed by April 12, 2021. Regarding the new COVID-19 coverage, Air Canada’s Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer, Lucie Guillemette, said,


"At Air Canada, we know people have personal, family and business reasons to travel. To give them greater confidence as they do so, we have engaged Manulife to offer all Canadian residents complimentary COVID-19 emergency medical & quarantine insurance when they book round-trip flights for travel outside of Canada. Combined with our industry leading airport and onboard biosafety protocols, including Air Canada CleanCare+, and our flexible rebooking policies, customers can be assured that when they book and travel with Air Canada their safety and well-being is our top priority.”


If a customer tests positive for COVID-19 while abroad the Manulife COVID-19 Emergency Medical Certificate of Insurance (the Plan) will cover up to CDN $200,000 in COVID-19 related medical expenses and daily quarantine costs of up to CDN $150/person or up to CDN $300/family for a maximum of 14 days. Additionally, the plan will provide up to CDN $500 for expenses related to a return home if an advisory from the Canadian government increases from Level 3 to Level 4 while a customer is at their destination. The coverage is available to all Canadian residents and is underwritten by The Manufacturers Life Insurance Company (Manulife). Air Canada previously announced that customers booking with Air Canada Vacations will be offered the complimentary COVID-19 Coverage and Assistance Plan provided by Allianz.
