Air Canada and United Airlines to Offer Over 260 Daily Transborder Flights for Summer 2023

For Summer 2023, Air Canada and United Airlines will collectively offer daily service on over 260 transborder routes for summer 2023. United will also add new service between Washington-Dulles (IAD) and Calgary, while Air Canada will add New IAD-Vancouver service.

On Thursday (February 23, 2023), United Airlines announced that through an enhanced transborder joint business agreement with Air Canada, the carriers will collectively offer more than 260 daily transborder flights for summer 2023, including two new routes. Additionally, United will introduce new service between Washington-Dulles (IAD) and Calgary (YYC), while Air Canada will launch new service between Washington-Dulles and Vancouver (YVR). Both airlines have optimized their transborder schedules for greater connectivity and more flexible flight times on over 80 transborder codeshare routes.


In Thursday’s announcement, United Airlines’ Senior Vice President – Global Network Planning and Alliances, Patrick Quayle, said,


“We’re proud of our continued work with Air Canada to provide customers with even greater transborder connectivity, including adding more flights and new direct service to Calgary and Vancouver from Washington Dulles. With schedules designed to give customers more flexibility with timing and more convenient connection options, as well as the ability to enjoy the benefits of both airlines’ loyalty programs, our agreement with Air Canada makes United the premier U.S. airline for travel to Canada.”


Also commenting on the expanded transborder joint business with United, Air Canada’s Senior Vice President – Network Planning and Revenue Management, said,


“Through our longstanding partnership with United Airlines, Air Canada has been able to offer customers ever-increasing and significant benefits. This summer, customers will have even greater choice and convenience with our joint summer schedule made possible by our airlines' new enhanced transborder agreement. Together we will offer more than 260 daily departures to the U.S, and new non-stop flights from Vancouver and Calgary to Washington-Dulles. Our coordinated schedules will provide business travelers with the convenience of hourly service and the additional comfort of a business cabin on all flights between Toronto and New York and Chicago, as well as Vancouver and San Francisco.”

ir Canada’s new nonstop service between Vancouver and Washington-Dulles will commence on June 1st, 2023. The route will operate five times weekly on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays with a Boeing 737-8 aircraft. United’s new direct route between Calgary and Washington-Dulles will start on June 2, 2023, with daily Airbus A319 service. Air Canada and United will codeshare on these routes, allowing Aeroplan and MileagePlus® members to earn and redeem miles, and enjoy benefits such as priority check-in, lounge access, priority boarding and other perks. The coordinated schedule will allow both airlines to operate ‘shuttle-style’ hourly service throughout the day between key Air Canada and United hubs. The carriers will offer 29 daily flights with complementary timings between Toronto (YYZ) and New York/Newark (EWR) and Chicago (ORD), as well as daily flights between Vancouver (YVR) and San Francisco (SFO).
