On Wednesday (July 7, 2021), AEGEAN Airlines announced the launch of a new codeshare with Volotea, increasing connectivity with 100 international routes to Greece on the networks of both airlines. The codeshared flights will now also be bookable on the websites and distribution systems of both AEGEAN and Volotea. The 100 codeshared city-pairs include flights to and from destinations in Italy, France and Spain, such as Venice, Verona, Naples, Genoa, Lyon, Bordeaux, Marseille, Madrid, Barcelona, Athens, Heraklion, Corfu, Mykonos, Zakynthos and Rhodes.

In Wednesday’s announcement, AEGEAN’s CEO, Dimitris Gerogiannis, said,

As leisure travel gradually returns, we are pleased to initiate this new cooperation with Volotea. The codeshare agreement will provide both our passengers significant additional number of direct flight options between the Greek islands and mainland and Italy, France and Spain both through our website and travel agents. We remain firmly committed to health-safe travel, to constantly improving our service offering and to keep accelerating our network and options for our customers by collaborating with reliable and fast-growing partners.”

Also commenting on the new codeshare partnership, Volotea’s Founder and CEO, Carlos Muñoz, said,

We are extremely happy to launch this partnership with AEGEAN, a much respected European independent airline that we share a lot of values with, in terms of high operational integrity, customer experience and price competitiveness. We selected routes that we believe our clients will be very interested in, and have been able to put together a very important number of destinations, which will cater for the increased offer of this summer. This agreement will offer both Volotea and AEGEAN a considerable growth opportunity since all the routes selected have no overlap.

AEGEAN currently codeshares with over 20 airlines, primarily within the Star Alliance, but also with airlines in Canada, the Balkans region and in the Gulf. The partnerships provide additional reach to 13 countries and a larger global network of destinations throughout Europe, Egypt, Ethiopia, South Africa, the Middle East, Singapore, Australia and Canada.
