Austrian Airlines maiden flight to Cancún (OS095) departed Vienna at 10:40 a.m. on Sunday. The fully-booked Boeing 777, registration OE-LPF, carried over 300 passengers on the flight, who were given a farewell sendoff with Mexican rhythms and breakfast.
On Monday (October 25, 2021), Austrian Airlines announced the launch of inaugural service between Vienna and Cancún, which took place on Sunday, October 24th. Guests on the fully-booked flight (OS095) were treated to Mexican rhythms and a typical breakfast in Vienna before departing at 10:40 a.m. local time. The Boeing 777 with seating capacity for 306, registration OE-LPF, touched down in Cancún after the 12 hour flight, where it was greeted with a traditional water cannon salute. During winter 2021/22, the route will be operated on Thursdays and Sundays, and customers can choose between Business Class, Premium Economy and Economy Class with tickets from €538.
In Monday’s announcement, Austrian Airlines’ Chief Commercial Officer, Michael Trestl, said,
“With our winter flight schedule, we are servicing attractive long-haul destinations to satisfy our passengers' desire to travel. With the direct connection to Cancún, we are expanding our long-haul offer in the tourist segment.”
The carrier will increase service from seven to 10 weekly roundtrip services to the popular Mexican holiday destination from December 19, 2021 through January 9, 2022 to meet Christmas demand. In addition to Cancún, Austrian Airlines’ winter 2021/22 schedule includes three weekly flights to Mauritius as well as Malé in the Maldives, with service also increasing substantially from December 17, 2021 through January 9, 2022.
