Wizz Air Opens New Base in Venice With Two Based Aircraft and 16 New Routes

Wizz Air continues their expansion in Italy with the opening of a new Venice base, their 7th Italian base. The carrier will base two Airbus A321neos in Venice and launch 16 new routes, including 4 domestic and 12 international routes to nine countries.

On Wednesday (October 6, 2021), Wizz Air announced the opening of a new base at Venice Marco Polo Airport in Italy. The carrier will base two Airbus A321neos in Venice and launch 16 new routes, including four domestic and 12 international routes to nine countries. Venice becomes the carrier’s 7th base in Italy with existing bases at Milan-Malpensa, Catania, Palermo, Bari, Naples and Rome Fiumicino. Wizz Air has served Italy since 2004 and has since carried over 40 million passengers to and from the country on over 200 routes.


Speaking at Wednesday’s press conference, Wizz Air Group’s President, Robert Carey, said,


“I am delighted to announce the establishment of Wizz Air’s base at Venice Marco Polo airport. This is another important milestone for WIZZ as well as for our passengers in the region. With our 16 new services to 9 countries, building on our existing 10 services to 7 countries, we are demonstrating our continued commitment to Italy as we grow both our domestic and international Italian network. The 2 new, modern and environmentally sustainable and 50% less noisy Airbus A321neo aircraft will make sure that Wizz Air protects the gems of Venice and the neighbouring areas. Our crew can’t wait to welcome the first passengers onboard our aircraft with a smile.”


Wizz Air’s new Venice base will support 70 new direct jobs and 800 jobs in associated industries. The two based A321neos will support operations on 16 new routes with service to Cagliari, Naples, Lamezia, Terme, Lampedusa, Casablanca, Reykjavik, Mykonos, Santorini, Fuerteventura, Tenerife, Palma de Mallorca, Tallinn, London-Luton, Tel Aviv, Prague and Sharm El Sheikh. Additionally, Wizz Air recently launched their domestic ‘Italian Wizz Air Discount Club’, with annual memberships from only €19.99. The 12-month membership provides travelers provides a guaranteed discount on all domestic Italian Wizz Air flights above €14.99, as well as a €2 discount for WIZZ Priority.


Budapest, Hungary-based Wizz Air serves over 150 destinations across 44 countries and operates an all Airbus A320 Family fleet of 142 aircraft, with an average age of 5.4 years. The airline has the largest order book for 250 A320neo Family aircraft, which will enable the company to reduce its environmental footprint by 25 percent by 2030. Wizz Air is the largest low-cost carrier (LCC) in Central and Eastern Europe offering over 700 routes from 46 bases. During FY 20 (ending March 31, 2020) the airline served approximately 40 million guests. Wizz Air offers superior guest service at exceptionally low fares. The company is an investment-grade credit rated airline which trades on the London Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol WIZZ.
