Wizz Air Announces Three New Bases in Germany, Romania and Russia Along With Belgrade Expansion

Wizz Air announced on Thursday the opening of three new bases in Germany, Romania and Russia along with an expansion of their base in Belgrade, Serbia. With the new bases and expansion, the carrier will deploy seven aircraft and launch 44 new routes.

Today, Wizz Air announced the opening of three new bases in Germany, Romania and Russia along with a major expansion at their Belgrade, Serbia hub. The expansion includes the deployment of seven aircraft and 44 new routes. The new Bacau, Romania base will house two aircraft and offer 12 new routes, while in Dortmund, Germany the carrier will base three aircraft and launch 18 new routes. The airline will base one aircraft at their new St. Petersburg, Russia base and offer five new routes. In Belgrade, Wizz Air is adding a new Airbus A321 (for a total of three based aircraft) and launching nine new routes including service to Hamburg, Cologne, Friedrichshafen, Brussels, Milan, Lisbon, Barcelona, Oslo and Turku. In Thursday’s announcement, Wizz Air’s Chief Executive Officer, József Váradi said,

Budapest, Hungary-based Wizz Air serves 153 destinations across 44 countries (under normal market conditions) and operates an all Airbus fleet of 122 airbus A320 and A321 aircraft. The airline is the largest low-cost carrier in Central and Eastern Europe and operates one of the youngest fleets in the world. Over the last 12 months, Wizz Air served around 40 million guests.
