Wizz Air Announces Launch of New London-Gatwick Base, Will Allocate One Airbus A321

Wizz Air Announced on Tuesday a further U.K. expansion with the opening of a new base at London-Gatwick. The carrier has allocated one Airbus A321 to the new base and will add four new routes to Greece, Italy, Spain and Malta.

Yesterday (August 18, 2020), Wizz Air announced the opening of a new base at South London’s Gatwick Airport. The new base will complement Wizz Air UK’s existing bases at London-Luton and Doncaster-Sheffield and will house an Airbus A321. Wizz will launch four new routes from October 22, 2020, including service to Athens, Naples, Lanzarote and Malta. The airline first began flying from Gatwick in 2016 and has since carried over one million passengers. Wizz Air’s new routes from London-Gatwick will offer 450,000 seats on sale for the remainder of the year with fares starting at £21.99. To celebrate the new routes, the carrier is offering a 72-hour deal on its ‘Wizz Flex’ service offering customers 50% off tickets booked on all London-Gatwick routes booked between August 18th and August 20, 2020. Wizz Flex must be purchased along with the basic fare and allows customers to cancel flights up to 3 hours before departure with a full refund along with unlimited date and route changes. In Tuesday’s announcement, Wizz Air UK’s Managing Director, Owain Jones said,

With the addition of the new base and routes, Wizz Air UK now offers 119 routes to 69 destinations from 11 UK airports. The new London-Gatwick base is expected to create over 40 direct and over 125 indirect jobs. Since April 2020, Wizz Air has launched over 200 new routes across their network.


Budapest, Hungary-based Wizz Air serves 155 destinations across 45 countries and operates an all Airbus fleet of 124 airbus A320 and A321 aircraft. The airline is the largest low-cost carrier (LCC) in Central and Eastern Europe and operates one of the youngest fleets in the world.
