Virgin Australia Announces Comprehensive Bushfire Support for Guests and Volunteer Firefighters

Virgin Australia announced on Monday a continuation of their comprehensive support for the battle against the nation’s catastrophic bushfires. The airline’s support ranges from guest flexibility to employee volunteer firefighters, fundraising and equipment transport.

With the ongoing bushfires in Australia, Virgin Australia announced on Monday a comprehensive “all hands on deck” strategy to provide support and assistance to those fighting and impacted by the inferno. First, all guests impacted by the bushfires can change or amend travel plans can rebook without change fees or receive a “Travel Bank Credit.” Next, the airline has put a four week paid leave program in place for employees who also serve as volunteer firefighters.


Virgin Australia has also teamed up with the Salvation Army Emergency services and is soliciting donations from customers with dedicated donation terminals across their lounge network. Additionally, customers can make donations through the Salvation Army Disaster Appeal through the dedicated website. Virgin Australia will also match each dollar donated to Salvation Army Emergency Services by employees up to $250K.


Finally, the carrier will support volunteers from community organizations and charities which require travel or logistics support, including the provision of cargo space and excess baggage space to help move equipment and supplies. In collaboration with Team Rubicon, Virgin Australia stands by to support flights for emergency workers and volunteers and has been offering discounted fares for emergency service organizations throughout the crisis.
