United Airlines is offering customers more user-friendly options to encourage and simplify the use of travel credits. Customers now have additional self-service options to find, apply and combine credits at check-out, including flights on partner airlines and more.
On Thursday (September 23, 2021), United Airlines announced the launch of more user-friendly self-service options to find, apply and combine travel credits ay checkout. Travel credits can now also be used to book flights on partner airlines, purchase Economy Plus® seats, pre-paid checked bags and more. United is simplifying and encouraging the use of travel credits by automatically displaying them as a payment option during the checkout process. The new functionality will be available to MileagePlus® members first, and will be rolled out to all customers in the near future.
In Thursday’s announcement, United Airlines’ Chief Customer Officer, Toby Enqvist, said,
“Unlike most airlines where travel credits are difficult to use, at United we're doing something different. We're showing our customers they have credits – and we're making them easier than ever to use. It's not just the right thing to do for our customers, but it's also the right way to re-introduce more customers to the United travel experience, which we're convinced will make them more likely to fly with us in the future.”
Additionally, starting next week, United will allow customers to use travel credits for extra legroom seats and to pre-pay checked bags. Other options will allow customers to combine multiple travel credits and even use them on partner airlines. United customers who have travel credits issued on or before August 31, 2021 will also have the one-time opportunity to share credits with friends and family by applying travel credits as payment on checkout.
When using the United app or visiting United.com, customers holding an electronic travel certificate (ETC) or future flight credit (FFC) will now be able to automatically see and apply travel credits. Customers can also combine multiple FFCs or ETCs, and will soon be able to combine both.
