As part of the carrier’s 20th anniversary celebrations, SWISS is currently naming 20 Airbus A220-100s and A220-300s after Swiss tourist regions. On Monday (May 8th) in Zurich the latest aircraft was named after the Viamala region in Canton Graubünden.
On Monday (May 8, 2023), Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) announced the naming of an Airbus A220 after the Viamala region in Canton Graubünden. The naming took place in the SWISS maintenance hangar in Zurich, with top skier Gino Caviezel performing the honors. As part of SWISS’ 20th anniversary, the carrier is naming 20 Airbus A220-100s and A220-300s after Swiss tourist regions. Last December, in partnership with Switzerland Tourism the company launched a contest inviting the country’s various tourist regions to compete for the honor, with three winners to be announced. With their creative entry, the Viamala region was one of the winners.

In Monday’s announcement, SWISS’ Head of Regional Sales – Switzerland, Marco Willa, said,
“I am delighted that the multi-faceted Viamala tourist region will now have its name carried on one of our Airbus A220s. With all its extensive history, this wonderful region is an ideal choice, and a perfect ambassador for all of Switzerland’s natural beauty.”
The Airbus A220-100, registration HBJ-JBF, was formally named ‘Viamala’ on Monday by top Swiss skier Gino Caviezel, whose roots are in Viamala, in the presence of Viamala Tourism Director Patric Berg, SWISS’ Head of Regional Sales Switzerland, Marco Will and other VIPs.

Additionally, on the first flight from Zurich to Dresden, guests onboard Viamala were treated to free entry to the breathtaking Viamala Gorge, courtesy of the Viamala region.
