Qatar Airways has launched three weekly flights between Doha and Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire via Accra. The inaugural flight landed at Felix Houphouet Boigny International Airport on Wednesday, marking the carrier’s eighth new destination since the onset of the pandemic.
On Wednesday (June 16, 2021), Qatar Airways announced the launch of new service to Abidjan, the largest city in Côte d’Ivoire, the carrier’s eighth new destination since the onset of the global COVID-19 pandemic. The airline will offer three weekly flights between Doha and Abidjan via Accra. The inaugural flight landed on Wednesday at Felix Houphouet International Airport and was welcomed with a traditional water cannon salute. The route will be operated with a state-of-the-art Boeing 787 Dreamliner featuring 22 Business Class and 232 Economy Class seats, along with 15 tons of cargo capacity.
In Wednesday’s announcement, Qatar Airways Group’s Chief Executive, His Excellency, Mr. Akbar Al Baker, said,
"Launching flights to Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire - our fourth new destination in Africa since the start of the pandemic, after having recently launched Abuja in Nigeria; Accra in Ghana; and Luanda in Angola is a significant step in our African growth. This is testament to our commitment to the African continent where we now operate over 100 weekly flights to 25 destinations in 18 countries via our home and hub, Hamad International Airport.
“At Qatar Airways, being there for our passengers, trade partners and corporate customers has been our major focus since the start of the pandemic. We thank the government of Côte d’Ivoire for their support to launch these flights, and we look forward to working closely with our partners here to grow this route and support the recovery of tourism and trade in this region. The new Abidjan service also supports an increase in cargo demand between Côte d’Ivoire and other destinations in Qatar Airways’ network such as Paris, Beirut and many points in the African subcontinent. Travelers from Côte d’Ivoire will also enjoy new baggage allowances ranging from 46 kg for Economy Class and 64 kg for Business Class guests, split over two pieces of luggage each.
Qatar Airways is the national carrier of the state of Qatar and from mid-summer 2021 will operate over 1,200 weekly flights to more than 140 destinations, providing more flexible travel options to more global destinations than any other airline. Qatar Airways was named the ‘World’s Best Airline’ in the 2019 World Airline Awards managed by Skytrax as well as the ‘Best Airline in the Middle East’ and ‘World’s Best Business Class.’ The carrier has also been awarded the title for ‘Best Business Class Seat’ in recognition of their ground-breaking Qsuite product which offers a spacious 1-2-1 seat layout and is available on flights to more than 40 destinations including Milan, New York, Paris and Singapore.
Additionally, Qatar Airways is the only carrier to have ever received the prestigious “Skytrax Airline of the Year” title five times. The airline normally serves over 170 global destinations with a fleet of more than 250 modern aircraft. Qatar Airways’ primary hub is located at Hamad International Airport in Doha, Qatar.
