Qatar Airways Expands Network to 100 Destinations With Resumption of Service to Sofia, Bulgaria

With the resumption of three weekly flights to Sofia, Bulgaria from October 16, 2020, the carrier’s network will now expand to over 700 weekly flights to 100 global destinations across six continents.

On Thursday (October 15, 2020), Qatar Airways announced the expansion of their network to 100 destinations with the resumption of three weekly flights to Sofia, Bulgaria. With the added service, the carrier now offers over 700 weekly flights across six continents. The airline’s mix of fuel-efficient aircraft and strategic management has allowed the company to expand services in line with customer demand. Qatar Airways plans on rebuilding their network to more than 125 destinations by the end of 2020 including 20 destinations in Africa, 11 in the Americas, 41 in the Asia-Pacific region, 38 in Europe and 15 in the Middle East. In Thursday’s announcement, Qatar Airways Group’s Chief Executive, His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker, said,


“As one of the few airlines to have continuously flown throughout the pandemic to take passengers home safely and reliably, we are proud reach this significant milestone in the rebuild of our network. Our focus is not only on restarting destinations but also operating as many frequencies as possible to provide our passengers the flexibility to travel when they want. With more than 700 weekly frequencies currently and plans to increase our network to more than 125 destinations by the end of 2020, our passengers will enjoy more options to travel when they want across the globe, safely and reliably.”

Qatar Airways is the national carrier of the state of Qatar and currently operates over 650 weekly flights to more than 90 destinations, providing more flexible travel options to more global destinations than any other airline. The carrier was named the ‘World’s Best Airline’ in the 2019 World Airline Awards managed by Skytrax as well as the ‘Best Airline in the Middle East,’ ‘World’s Best Business Class.’ Qatar Airways was also awarded the title for ‘Best Business Class Seat’ in recognition of their ground-breaking Qsuite product. Additionally, the airline is the only carrier to have ever received the prestigious “Skytrax Airline of the Year” title five times. Qatar Airways normally serves over 170 global destinations with a fleet of more than 250 modern aircraft. The airline’s primary hub is located at Hamad International Airport in Doha, Qatar.
