Qantas launched new service between Melbourne and Byron Bay for the first time on Friday, giving Victorians more travel options to the popular coastal hub. The carrier will offer three weekly return flights to Ballina Byron Gateway Airport with a Boeing 737-800.

On Friday (November 12, 2021), Qantas announced the start of new service between Melbourne and Byron Bay for the first time. The carrier will offer three weekly return flights to Ballina Gateway Airport with a Boeing 737-800, providing over 1,000 weekly seats on the route, complementing Jetstar’s daily direct Melbourne-Byron Bay service. During the peak holiday period between mid-December and January, Qantas will increase the route frequency to daily service, with over 2,400 weekly seats.
In Friday’s announcement, Qantas’ Domestic and International CEO, Andrew David, said,
“Byron Bay has been one of the most in demand holiday destinations for Qantas and Jetstar customers over the past year and we’re pleased to be making it even easier for Victorians to visit. These additional flights are coming at the right time for families who’ve spent a lot of time at home in recent months and are looking forward to getting out and exploring the best of Australia. As the national carrier, we have an important role to play in driving tourism and more interstate visitors will be great news for the New South Wales north coast. Travellers will be able to earn and use points on these new flights and enjoy our premium service, whether it’s complimentary food and drinks, baggage or access to our lounges in Melbourne prior to departure.”
With Qantas’ Fly Flexible Police, guests will enjoy unlimited fee free dates changes on all tickets booked for travel through February 28, 2022 (a fare difference may apply).
