On Thursday (May 2, 2024), Norwegian Air Shuttle announced an expansion of their summer 2024 schedule, including 47 new routes to popular destinations in France, Italy, Turkey and more.  As part of their summer 2024 flying program, Norwegian is investing heavily in Denmark, with as many as 17 new routes.  In Thursday’s announcement, Norwegian’s Commercial Director, Magnus Thome Maursund, said,

“We have expanded our summer program with a number of exciting destinations. In particular, we see in Norway that the new routes to Lyon and Istanbul from Oslo, and Milan from Stavanger, are popular. Almost guaranteed, sun and heat are still just as popular. In addition, I would like to highlight the investment in Denmark as very important for us this summer. It's great to be Norwegian in Denmark, and we have a strong increase in capacity in what is our second largest market.

“The booking trend looks good for the high season. Our advice is that if you have specific dates you are going to travel on, you should book now. This particularly applies to destinations in Spain and Greece, which fill up first. For the summer holidays, we also have a whole range of exciting destinations in Italy which are good alternatives.”

Of the 47 new summer 2024 routes, 12 began in April, 14 will start in May, and 21 will start in June.  Compared to summer 2023, Norwegian will offer 1.6 million additional seats this summer.

Norwegian Air Shuttle was established in September 2002 with four domestic routes and has since carried over 300 million passengers.  The airline Group, including Widerøe, is the largest  in Norway and currently employs approximately 8,200 team members.  Most employees are based in Norway in Oslo, Trondheim, Bergen and Stavanger, or at the company’s head office at Fornebu in Bærum.  The carrier also has offices in Riga and Barcelona, as well as bases in Alicante and Malaga.  The Group’s fleet, including Widerøe, now totals 136 aircraft, with 87 in the Norwegian fleet, and 49 in Widerøe’s fleet.  Norwegian currently offers affordable flights on a short-haul network of destinations in the Nordic countries and to key European destinations.  Norwegian aims to reduce CO2 emissions by 45 percent by 2030.
