KLM has appointed Maarten Stienen as the airline’s new Chief Operating Officer effective September 1st, 2022. Mr. Stienen has been with KLM since 1998 and currently serves as Senior Vice President of Hub Operations.
On Tuesday (August 23, 2022), KLM Royal Dutch Airlines announced the appointment of company veteran Maarten Stienen as Chief Operating Officer (COO) effective September 1st, 2022. Mr. Stienen joined KLM in 1998 and currently serves as the company’s Senior Vice President of Hub Operations. He started out as a management trainee and went on to hold a series of operational posts in the Netherlands and elsewhere during his first 11 years with the company, including Vice President Baggage & Turnaround Services and later Vice President of Industrial Relations & Human Resources. Next, he spent two years as Managing Director of KLM Catering Services before transferring to Hub Operations in 2020.
In today’s personnel announcement, KLM’s President & CEO, Marjan Rintel, said,
“I am glad we have managed to find an excellent candidate for the role of COO. Maarten Stienen has extensive experience in operations as well as other sectors. His appointment will strengthen our executive team in terms of insight as well as experienced leadership. I am very much looking forward to working with Maarten to bring calm and stability to the organisation together.
Also commenting on Mr. Stienen’s appointment as COO, KLM’s Chairman of the Supervisory Board, Cees ‘t Hart, said,
“Maarten Stienen has built up a great track record within KLM. His extensive experience in management and operations make him the ideal candidate for this position. The appointment of Maarten Stienen as COO presents a firm foundation to build on the future of KLM. I have every faith that our new executive team will jointly strengthen KLM’s position. KLM’s incoming Chief Operating Officer, Maarten Stienen, added,

Additionally, an extraordinary General Meeting of Shareholders will be convened where the Supervisory Board will nominate Maarten Stienen for appointment to the Board of Management of KLM.
