Flydubai Celebrates Inaugural Service to Yangon, Myanmar

Flydubai celebrated their inaugural flight to Yangon in Myanmar Wednesday, a milestone in service expansion to Southeast Asia. The new daily flights are codeshared with Emirates and operate out of Dubai International Airport’s Terminal 3.

Today, Dubai-based flydubai celebrated inaugural service to Yangon, Myanmar. The daily flight will be operated from Terminal 3 at Dubai International Airport (DXB) and is codeshared with Emirates. The milestone flight which carried a senior company delegation represents flydubai’s entrance into the Southeast Asian market. Leading the delegation onboard the inaugural flight was flydubai’s Senior Vice President, Commercial Operations – UAE, GCC, Subcontinent and Africa, Sudhir Sreedharan. At the inaugural ceremony, Mr. Sreedharan said,


“We are delighted to start our new daily service to Yangon, as we see flydubai’s network expand further East. We are confident that the new service will not only support the trade links between the UAE and Myanmar but also become a popular route for passengers travelling from the UAE and the GCC and for those connecting to Europe and the USA with Emirates. It’s a wonderful way to conclude our tenth year of operations.”


Upon arrival in Yangon, the flydubai delegation was met by His Excellency U Phyo Min Thein, Chief Minister of the Yangon Region and a large delegation of other dignitaries. In his opening remarks, His Excellency U Phyo Min Thein said,


“Yangon International Airport plays an essential role in the tourism development of Myanmar. The airport is a gateway to international travel. We want to extend a warm welcome to flydubai’s inaugural flight today and give thanks to developing our tourism sector, and secondly, recognizing Dubai as an international transit hub.”


Emirates’ passengers on the route will receive complimentary meals and the Emirates checked bag allowance on flights operated by flydubai in both Business and Economy Class cabins. The 2017 codeshare agreement between Emirates and flydubai continues to expand, giving customers of both airlines seamless booking and transit experiences through Dubai.

Flydubai was founded in 2009 and currently serves over 90 destinations in 48 countries across Africa, Central Asia, the Caucasus, Europe, the GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council), the Middle East and the Indian subcontinent. The Dubai-based carrier has opened more than 65 routes to underserved markets and will expand its fleet to around 236 aircraft over the next decade.
