China Airlines’ long-awaited one-day micro-trip onboard ‘Pikachu Jet CI’, a special liveried Airbus A321neo, is scheduled to depart on September 30, 2022, giving the general public a chance to see the Pokémon up close.
On Monday (September 5, 2022), China Airlines announced that the long-awaited ‘Pikachu Jet CI’ with Pokémon will take flight on September 30, 2022. The one-day micro-trip on the A321neo with special livery will take off from Taoyuan Airport and land at Taipei-Songshan Airport, giving the general public a chance to see the Pokémon up close. Only 80 seats will be available on the special micro-trip with tickets on sale from September 12, 2022. The Pikachu Jet CI will formally greet Pokémon fans when it makes its first regular flight on October 2, 2022, with service from Taipei-Songshan to Tokyo-Haneda.
The micro-trip flight, CI7616, will depart Taoyuan Airport at 11:00 and fly north towards Japan, before flying over Miyako-jima, Okinawa and Kagoshima. China Airlines will provide each passenger 100MB of complimentary inflight Wi-Fi so they can share their trip with friends and family.
The flight will then return to Songshan Airport at 14:30. An inflight lottery will also be held with a grand prize of a return Business Class ticket for short-haul routes. Each traveler will also receive a luxury gift bundle with a personalized commemorative boarding pass, a Pokémon hand washing stamp, a limited edition fragrant hand sanitizer pack, a China Airlines branded 4D face mask, Kelly Kiwi notebook, an A321neo ribbon, and a custom non-woven fabric carry bag. Additionally, a Pikachu Jet CI will also be sent out after the event.
The 80 limited-edition seats for the special flight will go on sale September 12, 2022 at 10:00, with fares (including taxes) of TWD 9,900 for a window seat, TWD 8,800 for an aisle seat, and TWD 7,700 for a middle seat (US $250-320). All ticket proceeds will go to charity. After the micro-trip, the Pikachu Jet CI will be parked at Songshan Airport for one day on October 1st, where Pokémon fans can visit the observation deck and take photos with the special liveried aircraft.
