British Airways Add Capacity Between the US, EU and UK, as Bookings Surge by 95 Percent

Since the UK Government announced that quarantine restrictions would be lifted for fully-vaccinated US and EU customers traveling to the UK, British Airways has seen an increase in bookings from the US of 95 percent. The carrier is therefore adding EU and US capacity.

On Friday (July 30, 2021), British Airways announced that they will add capacity from New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Berlin, Hamburg and Geneva. Since the UK Government announced that quarantine restrictions would be lifted for fully-vaccinated travelers from the US and EU, the carrier has seen a 95 percent increase in bookings from the US. The additional flights will also facilitate more seamless connections via London to other UK destinations such as Newquay, Edinburgh and Belfast. From August 16, 2021, flights between New York-JFK and London Heathrow will increase from 17 to 21 weekly services, while flights from Los Angeles and Chicago will increase from seven to 10 flights weekly. Starting August 23, 2021, flights between Seattle and London Heathrow will be increased for four to seven weekly services, while Los Angeles flights will be offered 14 times per week.

In Friday’s announcement, British Airways’ Chairman and CEO, Sean Doyle, said,

“We are very much looking forward to welcoming new visitors from the US and EU to the UK from next week, many of which will be reuniting with their family members for the first time in many months. This move will also help boost the British economy and the hospitality sector, which like aviation, has been crippled by the effects of the pandemic. We will support our customers as we emerge from this crisis and hope for crucial travel corridors to be established to allow reciprocal agreements. This will allow UK nationals to travel as the UK’s Covid cases fall and vaccination rates continue to rise.”

US customers will enjoy the additional connectivity with British Airways, as well as with the carrier’s partner, American Airlines. American’s extensive US network offers convenient one-stop connections between most US cities and London. Combined, British Airways and American offer more US-London flights than any other transatlantic partnership, with regular nonstop flights to and from 12 airports.

As previously mentioned, additional flights will also be added from European cities including Berlin, Geneva and Hamburg. Guests flying in Euro Traveller will also enjoy the newly launched Speedbird Café at-seat ordering system, in addition to the existing pre-order service, along with complimentary water and snacks on all routes. British Airways offers a flexible booking policy, allowing guests to book with absolute confidence. Customers can exchange their booking for a voucher or move dates without incurring a change fee. The additional EU and US flights are now available for booking on ba.com.
