On Wednesday (September 15, 2021), Austrian announced the restart of flights between Vienna and Montreal from October 1st, 2021. The carrier previously operated the route from April 2019 until March 2020 until it was suspended due to the global COVID-19 pandemic. As Canada reopened to fully-vaccinated travelers on September 7th, Austrian will now offer three weekly year-round flights to Montreal, the largest French-speaking city in North America. The route will be serviced with a 211-seat Boeing 767. Austrian Airlines’ codeshare partner and fellow Star Alliance member Air Canada has been operating three weekly flights between Vienna and Toronto since mid-July. The commercial partnership offers seamless onward connectivity with Air Canada via Montreal and Toronto, as well as from Austrian’s Vienna hub.

In Wednesday’s announcement, Austrian Airlines’ Chief Commercial Officer, Michael Trestl, said,

“After more than a year and a half, we can add Montreal to our destination portfolio again. We are delighted to be able to continue our cooperation with Air Canada and to strengthen our home base in Vienna. The connections of Austrian Airlines and Air Canada between Vienna and Canada are again increasingly relevant for both tourists and business travelers. We are very pleased that Canada is setting a good example in North America and facilitating tourist travel. Thanks to this regulation, we can again connect people around the globe, regardless of whether they are business travelers, families or travelers who want to discover new territories with us.”

Also commenting on Austrian’s resumption of service to Montreal, Air Canada’s Senior Vice President – Network Planning and Revenue Management, Mark Galardo, said, “It is with great excitement that we welcome Austrian Airlines back to Montreal. Vienna is a unique city to visit during the winter months, with its beautiful palaces and Christmas markets. In addition, the long-standing relationship between the two carriers allows passengers to connect seamlessly in Vienna to key destinations in Europe and the Middle East.” Flights from Vienna to Montreal and Toronto are now available for booking on the Austrian Airlines website, where customers can also find current information on flight schedules, mask requirements, entry requirements and rebooking policies.
