American Airlines debuted a new Lands' End uniform program on Monday which was rolled out to over 50,000 flight attendants, customer service agents and premium guest service team members.
On Monday, American Airlines announced the roll-out their new Lands’ End uniform program to over 50,000 flight attendants, customer service agent and premium guest service agents. The carrier is the first airline to provide a full uniform collection that is STANDARD 100 certified by OEKO-TEX. Today’s uniform debut is the culmination of a three year collaboration between front-line team members and union representatives to ensure safety, style, comfort, durability and functionality. The refreshed collection, manufactured by Lands’ End, has been designed in “Aviation Blue” and features shirts and accessories which are unique to each workgroup. In Monday’s announcement, American’s Managing Director of Flight Service Base Operations, Brady Byrnes said,
“When we set out to create a new uniform collection, the clear goal was to deliver an industry-leading program with the highest levels of safety, input and choice. Today’s launch is the culmination of years’ worth of input from team members, wear testing in the operation and the highest levels of garment certification. None of this would be possible without the partnership of our union representatives, and, most importantly, the thousands of team members who provided input and feedback along the way. This isn’t just a uniform for our team members, it’s one that was created by them, and we are excited to turn the page.”
Also commenting on the new uniform collection, Lands’ End Business Outfitters’ Senior Vice President, Joe Ferreri added,
“We’re proud to partner with the world’s largest airline to deliver an innovative and first-of-its-kind uniform collection. The team members at American have played a pivotal role in the creation of this collection, and it’s been an exciting journey to get us to today.”
While some airlines have rolled out certification of certain uniform pieces, American Airlines is the first and only carrier which has achieved STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX on every garment across all uniform collections. STANDARD 100 tests every element of the garment for hazardous chemicals including fabrics, sewing threads, buttons and zippers. In the development of the uniform program, American Airlines created a “Frontline Uniform Advisory Team,” which determined fabric color and collection design. Additionally, over 1,000 team members field tested the uniforms for six months prior to production. American Airlines’ team members were also allowed to select either a wool-blend or synthetic fabrication (both STANDARD 100 certified), to ensure personal preference and comfort.
American Airlines operates 6,800 daily flights to over 365 destinations in 61 countries.
