Air France-KLM Group and CMA CGM Group have officially launched their long-term strategic air cargo partnership, which was originally announced in May 2022. The partnership will see Air France KLM Martinair Cargo and CMA CGM pooling networks, capacity and services.
On Monday (April 3, 2023), Air France-KLM Group announced the official launch of their long-term air cargo strategic partnership with CMA CGM Group, which was made public in May 2022. Under the partnership, for an initial period of 10 years, Air France, KLM, Martinair Cargo and CMA CGM Air Cargo will pool their complementary cargo networks, cargo aircraft and belly-hold capacities, as well as dedicated services. The partnership will deliver a more integrated and resilient supply chain, leveraging the expertise of Air France-KLM in air freight, especially pharmaceuticals, perishables and express, and the Group’s global bubs at Paris Charles de Gaulle and Amsterdam Schiphol. For their part, CMA CGM will mobilize their extensive commercial network and global logistics platform.
In Monday’s announcement, Air France-KLM’s EVP Cargo and Head of the Cooperation Team, Adriaan Den Heijer, said,
“We are delighted with the entry into force of our long-term strategic partnership with CMA CGM Air Cargo in the field air freight. This will accelerate the development of our cargo activity, a strategic business for the Air France-KLM group, by opening up a wide range of new opportunities, in terms of offer, destinations and solutions for our customers. Thanks to the high level of expertise and commitment of our teams and the power of our distribution platform, we want to transform the future through this partnership.”
Also commenting on the partnership launch, CMA CGM Air Cargo’s Managing Director, Guillaume Lathelize, added,
“Our commercial joint venture with Air France KLM Martinair Cargo is now effective. With 6 aircraft, CMA CGM Air Cargo is the leading all-cargo company in France. It has demonstrated its flexibility and agility, offering scheduled flight and charter flight solutions to key logistics players. Our partnership will combine the best of both worlds to provide flexibility, agility and world-class expertise for both scheduled flights and on-demand service.”
Customers now have 24/7 access to the dedicated online ‘myCargo’ platform and digital services to easily make reservations. Expert customer service is also available, allowing customers to quickly find solutions, adapted to their specific needs. CMA CGM flights have been accessible on myCargo since March 20, 2023, and customers can easily book and combine flights operated by Air France, KLM, Martinair and CMA CGM Air cargo flights via this one-stop digital window.
As part of the commercial cooperation, Air France-KLM and CMA CGM will jointly exploit the capacities of the combined fleet of up to 12 dedicated freighters. CMA CGM Air Cargo will initially base six dedicated freighters at Paris-Charles de Gaulle, and the company has orders for six additional aircraft. Likewise, six dedicated Air France-KLM freighters will be based at Paris-CDG and Amsterdam Schiphol, with orders in progress for eight more freighters, which are primarily intended for fleet renewal. The partnership also includes the Group’s passenger aircraft belly-hold capacity, including over 160 long-haul aircraft.
