On Friday (June 18, 2021), Air Canada announced the completion of their inaugural nonstop flight between Montreal and Cairo, Egypt which landed today. The route will benefit the large Egyptian community established in Montreal and throughout North America and provide an additional gateway to Africa. The airline will operate the route three times weekly with a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner configured with Air Canada Signature Class, Premium Economy and Economy Class cabins. Departures from Montreal will be available on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, with return flights from Cairo operating on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. The new route is part of Air Canada’s strategic rebuilding of their global network, with a focus on leisure and visiting friends and family traffic.

In Friday’s announcement, Air Canada’s Senior Vice President – Network Planning and Revenue management, Mark Galardo, said,

“Air Canada is pleased to offer its first scheduled flights to Egypt. We are strategically rebuilding our international network by adding new routes that support leisure and visiting friends and family travel. With few non-stop options to Egypt from North America, we see opportunities to launch new non-stop flights to Cairo from Montreal where there is an established Egyptian community. We have also built convenient connections to and from our Cairo flights from across Canada and the US at our Montreal hub. This new route shows our commitment to rebuild our international network and our Montreal hub, which have been dramatically affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Air Canada has timed the Montreal-Cairo route to optimize connectivity across their network, and an expanded codeshare with Star Alliance partner Egyptair will allow seamless connectivity via Cairo to Aswan, Hurghada, Luxor and Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt, as well as Amman, Jordan and Bahrain. Additionally, Air Canada’s new refund policy allows guests to book with confidence, offering customers options of refunds, an Air Canada Travel Voucher, or an equivalent value in Aeroplan Points with a 65 percent bonus, if the airline cancels or reschedules a flight by more than three hours.

As a separate note, Aeroplan loyalty program members will be pleased to hear that Air Canada’s Maple Leaf Lounge located at the domestic gates at Montreal-Trudeau will be reopening on June 23, 2021, providing access to eligible guests traveling on domestic and international flights.

Air Canada is Canada’s largest domestic and international airline. The Canadian flag carrier is a founding member of the Star Alliance and the only international network carrier in North America to receive a Four-Star ranking from Skytrax. For the last two years Air Canada was also named Global Traveler’s ‘Best Airline in North America.’
