On Wednesday (December 9, 2020), Aeromexico celebrated the launch of new service between Mexico City and Chetumal. The carrier will offer over 130 weekly flights to Cancun and Chetumal from Mexico City, Monterrey, Guadalajara and Tijuana. The inaugural flight to Chetumal was welcomed by Carlos Joaquin Gonzalez, Governor of the State of Quintana Roo along with airline representatives and the local airport authorities from Aeropuertos y Servicios Auxiliares (ASA). The aircraft was greeted with a traditional water cannon salute upon arrival in Chetumal. In Wednesday’s announcement, Quintana Roo’s Governor, Carlos Joaquin Gonzalez, said,

“I am very pleased with the arrival of this flight to Chetumal that without a doubt is key for the economic reactivation of the state since it will increase connectivity, and at the same time will help us improve hotel occupancy levels. The route will allow us to continue carrying out actions in favor of tourism and economic development in the capital of our state, and going to generate greater investment in the southern area of Quintana Roo. We continue to move forward with a firm step.”

Also commenting on the new service ASA’s Technical and Consulting Director, Hugo Alberto Delgado Ortega, added,

“For the launch of the new route Mexico City-Chetumal, operated by Aeromexico, the Chetumal International Airport has a new terminal building that increases its capacity to 100%, to attend 370 passengers during peak hours, reaching the optimum IATA level, with 10m2 per passenger, thus offering a better quality service.”

Finally, Aeromexico’s Senior Vice President of Global Sales, Giancarlo Mulinelli, stated,

We will continue to meet our commitment to serving the routes and destinations that our customers demand, and the State of Quintana Roo offers an ideal infrastructure for business and tourism. We are very proud to fly even more to this State.”
