Wizz Air Announces New Sarajevo Base With One Aircraft and Nine New Routes for 2021

The carrier has announced their 41st base with the opening of a new base at Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina from May 2021. The base will house one new Airbus A320 aircraft and offer nine routes to seven countries.

On Wednesday (February 3, 2021), Wizz Air announced the opening of their 41st base in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina from May 2021. The airline will base one Airbus A320 in Sarajevo and launch nine routes to seven countries with service to Brussels Charleroi, Copenhagen, Dortmund, Eindhoven, Gothenburg, London-Luton, Memmingen, Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg (Euroairport) and Paris-Beauvais. Wizz Air has served Bosnia and Herzegovina since May 2013 with flights from Tuzla and Malmö and has since carried nearly three million guests to and from the country. In Wednesday’s announcement, Wizz Air’s Senior Corporate Communications manager, Andras Rado, said,

“After eight years of successful operations to Bosnia and Herzegovina, I am delighted to announce our second Bosnian base in Sarajevo, as we see the potential and the demand for low cost travel in the country. Today’s announcement underpins our dedication to developing our presence in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and offering more affordable travel opportunities, while keeping ourselves to the highest standards of our sanitizing protocols. Our state-of-the-art aircraft as well as our enhanced protective measures will ensure the best possible sanitary conditions for travelers. Budapest, Hungary-based Wizz Air serves 155 destinations across 45 countries and operates an all Airbus fleet of 134 A320 and A320neo Family aircraft, with an average age of 5.4 years. The company has the largest order book for 268 A320neo Family aircraft which will enable the company to reduce its environmental footprint by 30 percent by 2030. Wizz Air is the largest low-cost carrier (LCC) in Central and Eastern Europe offering over 700 routes from 41 bases. During FY 20 (ending March 31, 2020) the airline served approximately 40 million guests.
