SWISS has recently seen a rise in bookings for the summer season and will offer service to 49 destinations from Zurich and Geneva during June and July. During the peak summer season, the carrier will operate 85 Routes from Zurich and 40 from Geneva.
On Tuesday (June 1, 2021), Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) announced an update to their summer 2021 flying program. The carrier has recently seen a rise in bookings and will serve 49 destinations during June and July with 85 routes from Zurich and 40 from Geneva, with a focus on leisure and visiting-friends-and-relatives travelers. Although SWISS will operate 125 routes, capacity is only expected to rise to 50-55 percent of 2019 levels. The airline continues to offer full rebooking flexibility and is lobbying for the introduction of internationally recognized digital health certificates.
In Tuesday’s announcement, SWISS’s Chief Commercial Officer, Tamur Goudarzi Pour, said,
“The rise that we have recently seen in our bookings for the summer months clearly shows us how keen people are to travel. And we are striving to satisfy this desire by offering a programme of flights that is as comprehensive as possible and as tailored as possible to market demand. We also expect to see further increases in bookings over the summer months. All in all, though, our booking volumes are still well below the levels they were at in pre-pandemic times; and we regretfully still see no signs of any broader structural recovery of the air transport sector.
“It’s a major aim of ours to make our customers’ air travel simple and reliable. And what SWISS travellers need for this summer is a standardized and internationally recognized digital health passport certificating their vaccinations, their COVID test results and/or their COVID recovery.”
SWISS will offer new or resumed services to 24 destinations from Zurich and Geneva in June and 25 additional points in July. Over the next few weeks, the carrier will resume service between Zurich and Amsterdam, Bordeaux, Brindisi, Cork, Florence, Heringsdorf, Ljubljana, Marseille, Milan and Oslo. Long-haul flights to Cairo and Los Angeles will also be restored and new service from Zurich to Billund and Tallinn will be launched. From Geneva, SWISS guests will enjoy service to Alicante, Biarritz, Brindisi, Catania, Corfu, Faro, Heraklion, Ibiza, Mykonos and Thessaloniki. Additionally, the carrier’s Geneva network will include new service to Funchal, Ponta Delgada, Santorini and Split.
As previously mentioned, SWISS continues to offer full rebooking flexibility, with tickets for all fares issued on or before July 31, 2021 remaining rebookable free of charge for an unlimited number of times. One additional free change is also permitted thereafter. Flights can be rebooked for any date within the ticket’s validity up to July 31, 2022. Subject to availability, customers can also change their route, for example, from Zurich-Johannesburg to Zurich-New York, though a fare difference will apply. Other ticket changes may entail additional costs if the original fare category is no longer available on the new travel date.
