Thomas Rückert Becomes Lufthansa Group’s New Chief Information Officer

Mr. Rückert succeeded Roland Schütz as Lufthansa Group’s new CIO on January 1st, 2021. Joining Lufthansa Technik as a trainee in 1995, Thomas Rückert has held various positions at the division in Germany, Ireland and the Philippines over the last 25 years.

On Tuesday (January 12, 2021), the Lufthansa Group announced that Thomas Rückert (50) has succeeded Roland Schütz as the Group’s new Chief information Officer (CIO), effective January 1st, 2021. Mr Rückert, an industrial engineer (TU Darmstadt), joined Lufthansa Technik in 1995 as a trainee and over the last 25 years has held various positions at the division in Germany, Ireland and the Philippines. Most recently, he served as Vice President – Maintenance Services, where he headed Lufthansa Technik’s worldwide overhaul network along with two other managers, reporting directly to the Executive Board. As Spokesman for the Product Division, Mr. Rückert was responsible for all shared services, product development and digitization.

In his new position, Thomas Rückert will report directly to Christina Foerster, Deutsche Lufthansa AG’s Board Member responsible for Customer, IT and Corporate Responsibility. In addition to implementing the Group’s IT strategy, he is also responsible for IT security, infrastructure and coordinating the Group’s digitization process. Mr. Rückert comes from the town of Much (Rhein-Sieg-Kreis) and in his new position will create “Customer Centric Airlines” through innovative, fast and flexible information management.
