SWISS Expands Cargo Services and Will Convert Three Boeing 777s for Freight

Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) and announced on Monday that they have conducted over 80 cargo-only flights since the end of March and will operate 100 more flights by the end of May. The carrier will also convert thee B777s for cargo optimization.

Today, Swiss International Air Lines and Swiss WorldCargo announced that they have completed over 80 cargo-only flights since the end of March. The carrier has transported over 1,300 tons of freight between Asia and Switzerland and plans on operating around 100 more airfreight flights on behalf of private and public entities by the end of May. Thus far, the cargo has largely consisted of medicines, medical supplies and personal protective equipment (PPE) on behalf of the Swiss healthcare system. In order to optimize freight capacity, the carrier also plans on converting three Boeing 777-300ERs by removing Economy Class seating. In total, around 800 seats will be removed at Zurich Airport to provide added capacity for medical and humanitarian supplies during the crisis.

Swiss will introduce new cargo-only services between Zurich and Shanghai (up to 3 flights daily), Beijing (up to 2 flights daily), Chicago and Tokyo (twice weekly) and Bangkok and Singapore (weekly). Over the next few weeks, the carrier plans on announcing further destinations to their cargo network.
