Spirit Airlines Expands Service From Austin-Bergstrom International Airport

Spirit Airlines announced on Wednesday an expansion of service from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Austin, Texas. The expansion includes international service to Cancun, Mexico as well as domestic service to Nashville and New York-Newark.

Celebrating the first anniversary of their service from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) in Austin, Texas, Spirit Airlines announced an expansion of service from the airport on Wednesday. The carrier’s first of four weekly flights from Austin to Cancun (CUN), Mexico took off Wednesday morning amidst the airline’s first anniversary celebration. In March, Spirit will also be adding daily service to Nashville (BNA) and New York-Newark (EWR). In Wednesday’s announcement, Spirit Airlines’ Vice President of Network planning, John Kirby said,

“By adding nonstop destinations with our famous low fares, we create more opportunity for our Guests to travel and save. We’re excited to offer even More Go in Austin. Savvy travelers can use the money Spirit helps then save to enjoy more of Cancun’s great beaches, experience another great music city like Nashville, or catch a new show in the Big Apple.”

After just one year in Austin, Spirit will be offering up to 14 daily departures to 13 destinations. Also commenting on today’s announcement, Austin-Bergstrom International Airport’s Executive Director, Jacqueline Yaft added,

“This month marks Spirit’s one-year anniversary in Austin, and what better way to celebrate their success than the launch of exciting new year-round service to Cancun.”

Miramar, Florida-based low-cost carrier Spirit Airlines operates over 650 daily flights to 77 destinations in the US, Latin America and the Caribbean. The airline allows customers to select and pay for only the products and services they want, something they call “À La Smarte.” Spirit also operates one of the youngest and most fuel-efficient fleets in the US and recently firmed up an order for 100 new Airbus A320neo Family aircraft. The carrier proudly calls their youthful fleet of aircraft their “Fit Fleet®.”
