Norwegian Air Shuttle Completes Agreement to Purchase 50 Boeing 737-8 MAX Aircraft

Norwegian has today firmed up their order for 50 Boeing 737-8 MAX aircraft. The carrier previously announced a letter of intent for the purchase of 50 737-8 MAX and options for an additional 30 aircraft at the end of May 2022.

On Wednesday (June 22, 2022), Norwegian Air Shuttle announced that they have completed their agreement to purchase 50 Boeing 737-8 MAX airplanes. The carrier previously announced a letter of intent at the end of May 2022 for the purchase of 50 Boeing 737-8 MAX aircraft and options for another 30. Today, the order was firmed up, finalized and signed, and Norwegian estimates to book a net gain of NOK 2 billion (US $202.1 million) as a result of the agreement. Additionally, Boeing and Norwegian have agreed to settle all outstanding legal disputes stemming from the previous grounding of Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.

In Today’s announcment, Norwegian’s CEO, Geir Karlsen, said,

“The agreement to purchase 50 brand new and fuel-efficient 737 MAX aircraft is a major step forward in our strategy to consolidate our leading market position in the Nordic region.”

Norwegian Air Shuttle was founded in 1993 and offers smart and pleasant travel experiences at low prices. In 2019, Norwegian became the first airline to sign the UN Climate Action Programme, committing to becoming climate neutral by 2050. The carrier currently offers affordable flights on a short-haul network of destinations in the Nordic countries and to key European destinations.
