Lufthansa Cargo Names Nicole Mies as New Head of Communications and Corporate Social Responsibility

Nicole Mies has been appointed Head of Communications and Corporate Social Responsibility for Lufthansa Cargo, succeeding Jacqueline Casini who left the company at the end of May.

On Wednesday (July 19, 2023), Lufthansa Cargo announced the appointment of Nicole Mies as the new Head of Communications and Corporate Social Responsibility. In her new role, Ms. Mies will be managing the disciplines of internal and external corporate communications, marketing, environmental management, and corporate social responsibility. Until recently, she served as Senior Director of Customer Strategy, where she was responsible for the entire brand and customer experience strategy of the Lufthansa Group Airlines. Nicole Mies succeeds Jacqueline Casini, who departed the company at the end of May.

In Wednesday’s announcement, Lufthansa Cargo’s CEO, Ashwin Bhat, said,

“We are delighted to welcome Nicole Mies to Lufthansa Cargo, an experienced executive with a clear marketing profile and extensive expertise in customer experience and brand management. Her role as Head of Communications and Corporate Social Responsibility is an important key position in our organization with a special impact both internally and externally. With her past experience, Nicole is therefore ideally suited to strengthen the image and the associated mission of Lufthansa Cargo - 'Enabling Global Business' - and to further expand it with communicative consideration of our digitalization and sustainability initiatives.”

Nicole Mies studied business administration at Pforzheim University and later worked for international clients in leading advertising agencies. In 1998, she joined the Lufthansa Group in marketing at Lufthansa Cargo and expanded her marketing expertise by holding various positions at Lufthansa in Germany and abroad. For over five years, Nicole Mies also led the comprehensive rebranding and design relaunch of the Lufthansa Brand in the Global Brand Management department. During that time, she managed the brand architecture, the airline brand portfolio, and the central Lufthansa Group brand strategy.

With revenue of €4.6 billion and 7.2 billion freight ton kilometers in 2022, Lufthansa Cargo is one of the world’s leading air freight companies, employing approximately 4,100 team members worldwide. The cargo carrier serves around 300 destinations in over 100 countries with a dedicated fleet of freighters, as well as belly-hold cargo capacity of passenger aircraft operated by Lufthansa German Airlines, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Eurowings Discover and SunExpress. In 2022, the company reached important milestones such as the investment of continuous expansion of the Boeing 777F fleet, the expansion of short and medium-haul networks with Airbus A321 freighters, and the continuation of the SAF program. The airline is currently equipping their fleet of dedicated 777 Freighters with Sharkskin technology to reduce drag, and expand their SAF program to further reduce CO2 emissions. The company also operates an extensive road feeder service network. Lufthansa Cargo is a wholly owned subsidiary of Deutsche Lufthansa AG and is the Group’s logistics specialist.
