Iberia Celebrates 60 Years of Service Between A Coruña and Madrid

Iberia marked the 60th anniversary of flights between A Coruña and Madrid on Thursday (May 25th). At 12:30 on May 25, 1963, Alvedro Airport opened and an Aviaco airplane, then a subsidiary of Iberia, landed in A Coruña for the first time.

On Thursday (May 25, 2023), Iberia celebrated the 60th anniversary of service between A Coruña and Madrid. At 12:30 on May 25, 1963 and Aviaco airplane, then a subsidiary of Iberia touched down in A Coruña for the first time, just as the Alvedro Airport opened. The aircraft, a Convair CV-440 Metropolitan, registration EC-APV, carried 44 passengers and six crew members traveling from Madrid. According to a contemporary news article about the opening of Alvedro Airport, more than 50,000 people came to the airport to experience the grand opening.

Currently, Iberia offers 28 weekly frequencies between A Coruña and Madrid, which will increase to 31 from June 2023. The carrier has optimized the schedule so it covers the whole day, allowing same day return trips, or for convenient connections via Madrid to over 100 international destinations, including eight in the U.S., and 18 destinations in 16 Latin American countries.
