Yesterday, Delta Air Lines announced that they would be moving their operations from Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK) to Beijing Daxing International Airport (PKX) in March 2020. The relocation is in coordination with SkyTeam partner China Eastern’s relocation to Daxing and will ensure seamless international-domestic connections between the airlines. Delta’s two daily non-stop flights from Detroit and Seattle will move to Daxing, where customers will eventually be able to connect to 30 Chinese domestic destinations with codeshare partner China Eastern. In Monday’s announcement, Delta’s President – Greater China and Singapore, Wong Hong said,

“We look forward to moving to our new home in Beijing. The brand new Daxing International Airport will provide us a great opportunity to better serve the growing needs of our customers in China. As Delta operates in the new mega airport, working with China Eastern side by side, customers will enjoy the improved departure and arrival times, seamless connection, more convenient baggage delivery, and faster security check, customs and boarding/arrival procedures.”

With the move, Delta One customers and SkyMiles Diamond, Platinum or Gold Medallion members will now have access to China Eastern’s new Daxing international VIP lounges. China Eastern will move most of their flights to Beijing-Daxing by the first quarter of 2020, except for their Beijing-Shanghai route. Also commenting on yesterday’s announcement, Daxing International Airport’s Deputy General Manager, Kong You added,

“We are excited to have Delta Air Lines as one of the key tenant airlines at the Daxing Airport, which is designed for connection. We share the same goal of providing passengers with a seamless and pleasant travel experience. With Delta’s successful move to Daxing Airport, we’ll continue working closely together to ensure passengers arriving and departing in Daxing Airport could enjoy the best-in-class services.”

Delta’s daily service between Detroit and Beijing is currently served by the airline’s flagship long-haul Airbus A350 and Seattle-Beijing service will be upgraded to a new Airbus A330-900neo during the first half of 2020. Last September, Delta moved its Shanghai service to the new Shanghai Pudong International Airport Satellite 1 Terminal. Delta offers four daily non-stops to Shanghai-Pudong from Detroit, Seattle, Los Angeles and Atlanta and by the first half of 2020, all Chinese routes will be served by an Airbus A350, new A330-900neo or newly retrofitted Boeing 777, all equipped with the airline’s next generation Delta One suites and Delta Premium Select products.
