Boeing Forecasts the Need for 2.1 Million New Commercial Aviation Personnel over the Next 20 Years

Boeing has today published their 2022 Pilot and Technician Outlook (PTO), which forecasts the need for 2.1 million commercial aviation personnel over the next 20 years, including 602,000 pilots, 610,000 maintenance technicians and 899,000 cabin crew.

On Monday (July 25, 2022), from the EAA AirVenture 2022 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin (U.S.), Boeing released their 2022 Pilot and Technician Outlook (PTO). The company forecasts the need for 2.1 million new commercial aviation personnel over the next 20 years, including 602,000 pilots, 610,000 maintenance technicians and 899,000 cabin crew members. The worldwide fleet of commercial airplanes is expected to double and grow to 47,080 by 2041, according to Boeing’s recently published Commercial Market Outlook (CMO). The 2022 PTO forecast represents a 3.4 percent increase from 2021, excluding Russia, with China, Europe and the U.S. representing over half of the new personnel demand. Africa, Southeast Asia and South Asia are the fastest growing regions, and are expected to each grow by more than four percent over the forecast period.
