Azul Announces the Exit of 12 Embraer E-195-E1s Through 2023

Azul has announced the exit from their fleet of 12 Embraer E195-E1s through 2023. Compared to 2019, the carrier’s fleet of E1s will be reduced by 22 aircraft or by 40 percent.

On Tuesday (September 20, 2022), Azul announced the exit of 12 first generation Embraer E195s from their passenger fleet through 2023. Compared to 2019, Azul’s E195-E1 fleet will be reduced by 22 aircraft or 40 percent, as part of the carrier’s fleet transformation plan. The fleet reduction includes a recently negotiated sale of five E-195s to Azorra Aviation, the end of four leases and the conversion of three aircraft to Class F freighters.

In Wednesday’s announcement, Azul’s Chief Financial Officer, Alex Malfitani, said,

“This announcement demonstrates our ability to accelerate the phase-out of previous-generation Embraer E1s. The exit of the E1s gives us the opportunity to advance the delivery of next-generation E2, further expanding our margins given the E2’s 26% lower seat cost compared to the E1. This also confirms our position as the airline with the youngest, most fuel-efficient fleet in the region and moves us one step further in our commitment to reach carbon neutrality by 2045.”

Azul is the largest airline in Brazil, based on the number of departures and cities served. The carrier offers over 900 daily departures to more than 150 destinations and operates a fleet of 160 aircraft. The airline employs more than 13,000 and has a network of more than 300 nonstop routes.
