American Airlines Suspends Service to 15 Markets From October 7, 2020 on Weak Demand

American Airlines announced on Thursday that they will suspend service to 15 markets in October on weak demand and the expiration of U.S. CARES Act service commitments. The station suspensions will be effective from October 7th through November 3, 2020.

On Thursday (August 20, 2020) American Airlines announced that they will suspend service to 15 markets in October due to weak demand and the expiration of service commitments under the U.S. Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act. The Cares Act Payroll Support Program (PSP) will expire on September 30, 2020, freeing carriers from numerous program provisions including minimum service and employee retention requirements. The carrier’s station suspensions will run from October 7, 2020 through November 3, 2020, as the company reevaluates their network. American Airlines will release their full October schedule on August 29th and anticipates releasing their updated November schedule in late September.
