Air France Celebrates Production Test Flight of First of 60 Airbus A220s on Order

On Thursday, Air France celebrated the test flight, known as the production flight, of the first of their 60 Airbus A220s on order. The aircraft took off from the production site in Mirabel, Canada yesterday, landing a few hours later after successful testing.

On Friday (August 27, 2021), Air France announced the completion of the test or production flight of their first of 60 Airbus A220s on order, which took place yesterday. Sporting Air France colors, the aircraft departed the production facility in Mirabel, Canada on Thursday with a team of Airbus representatives onboard to carry out testing. Air France’s new A220s will replace existing Airbus A318s and A319s on the carrier’s short and medium-haul networks. The A220 tested yesterday will also complete a customer acceptance flight with Airbus and Air France representatives onboard prior to delivery at the end of September 2021.

The A220-300 can accommodate 148 passengers with a range of 2,300 nautical miles. The aircraft also features wider seats, larger overhead bins, wider aisles and inflight Wi-Fi. Encompassing Air France’s sustainability objectives, the aircraft delivers a 50 percent reduction in CO2 emissions in absolute terms on the domestic network from Paris-Orly, and on inter-regional routes by 2024 (compared to 2019 levels), with a 50 percent reduction in CO2 emissions per passenger/km by 2030 (compared to 2005 levels).
